Circleback Adds Free AI Meeting Notes Tier as Competition Grows

Circleback has introduced a free tier for its AI meeting-notes product as the market around automated transcription, summaries, and workplace search becomes more crowded. The move gives users a lower-friction way to test the product while keeping the most valuable collaboration and developer features behind paid plans.

What changed

According to TechCrunch, Circleback’s free plan includes unlimited meeting transcription, access to the last 30 days of history, mobile and Apple Watch apps, AI queries over transcripts, and integrations with Linear and Slack. Users who need unlimited history, the full integration set, API access, or MCP access will need a paid subscription, starting at $14 per month when billed annually.

The company previously had no permanent free tier. Its paid plans started at $20.83 per month, while a limited trial period reportedly caused a significant drop-off after users tested the product.

Why this matters for AI automation

Meeting data is becoming a practical trigger for business workflows. A transcript can create tasks, update a project record, start a follow-up sequence, or feed a searchable knowledge base. Circleback’s decision to offer free transcription lowers the barrier to experimenting with those workflows, especially for small teams that do not yet know how much meeting intelligence they will use.

The dividing line is increasingly moving from raw capture to connected action. Basic transcription is easier to commoditize, while durable history, integrations, permissions, API reliability, and MCP support determine whether an AI note-taker can become part of an operational system.

Circleback says it has been profitable since 2024 and is not immediately seeking new funding. Its free plan will function partly as a customer-acquisition channel while the company competes with larger platforms and dedicated meeting-note products.
